MC with Jen Lowe 8/15/10
Posted on August 15, 2010 with 1 commentOn August 15th, Mike teamed up with singer, songwriter, musician, Jen Lowe for an acoustic duo at Lucky Lou's in Old Wethersfield, Ct. Well, partly acoustic, Mike did back Jen on a bunch of her songs playing electric guitar.
The format of their show was such, Jen sang and Mike usually backed her with electric, and when Mike sang he played acoustic.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with Jen, Jen is a very talented songwriter, guitarist and performer, who writes, what I feel, are sensible, likeable, heartfelt songs. Jen and Mike have performed together before, with their bands sharing a double billing at Black-Eyed Sally's last year. Former MCB members Chip Fenney is a current member of Jen's band and Johnny Corvo fills in on drums for her occasionly.
Jen delivers her songs in a sentimental heartfelt manner and Mike's intricate lead fills on electric interwove beautifully with Jen's vocal phrasings. The flipside to her softer tone of delivery is a happy go lucky vocal styling which when paired together with Mike's songs and vocal styling makes for a perfect alternating combination of styles.
Mike played a bunch of MCB favorites including, "Free James Brown", "Barfly", and "When All Else Fails". He also played a few songs that you won't hear him play with MCB, only acoustically, including the debut of "I Don't Care What You Look Like", which was well received. They closed the evening with a rousing rendition of Jen's song "Hell" which is off of her cd that you can get on her website here http://jenlowe.com/
As you all know I've seen and heard Mike play quite a bit over the years and when Mike got loosened up on electric I heard him play some sick stuff that I never heard him play before !
The night went well with Mike making some new fans and selling a bunch of CD's. So, if you get the chance, which isn't that often, to see Mike acoustic, do so. Occasionally, MC and Lee will also do an acoustic duo so keep an eye out for that and we'll keep you posted on any other acoustic shows.
But until then come see MCB at Damon's in West Hartford, Ct., Friday Night August 20th.
We gonna rock out, get the funk out and just plain get down people !
