2011 The Year in Review

Time flies when your having fun....

Our 20th year passes but we've accomplished much all while having a blast. From the massive crowds at Wadsworth Mansion and Jonathan Edwards Winery, to the groovy festivals like Strangecreek and The Daffodil Fest. The private parties, benefits and tons of clubs; Jakes, The Main Pub, Black Eyed Sallys, Donahues, The Winchester and Theodores, just to name a few.

Somehow, along the way, we managed to record and release our 5th cd "MCB Five". We consider this our finest album to date and poured our heart and soul into the making of it. The story of this cd is deserving of its own blog so keep an eye out for that. We look forward to seeing you at the cd release party on New Years Eve at The Main Pub.

All of these happenings could not be possible without the efforts and support of friends and family. We would also like to recognize some of the people behind the scenes, our booking agents; Cubed Squared and Wendy Gnaidy of BGM Artists, as well as our crew and sound engineers, Jon Gates, Noah Peebles, Frank Grande, Sean Kelley, Rhody Triblets, Mike Goodreau of Ace Audio, Jim Mingo, Jaybird, and Chuck Rubano.

Last but not least, we would like to give a humble thanks to our fans. Without you, there would be no MCB. When we see you enjoying our music, it makes it all worthwhile and for that we are grateful.

I personally would like to thank the band; Vin, Lee, Edmund, Jedd, and Frank. Your creativity, dedication and commitment keep the wheels rolling on this musical journey and make it extremely fun and satisfying for me. Here's to more success in 2012!

mc

Strange Creek 5/28/11

"Strange days indeed, most peculiar mama". Well, nothing peculiar at all if you're an old hippie or a young modern day hipster who enjoys a good outdoor music festival.

After not having seen MCB in several months, I recently wandered into the Strange Creek Festival in Greenfield, Mass on May 28th to check them out. Not only was I able to see the band but was also able to see "The Face of Today's Hippie".

After a truck drive and a walk through the woods with the gear, the band hit the stage amongst tent city and came out of the gate strong playing a solid hour long set. Following a very good performance from the band that played before them, Mike started out the set with something familiar to the crowd, a Trey tune, “Alive Again”. Mike's superlative guitar playing drew people in from afar, so I was told from people in attendance, to hear the groovy sounds.

With a crowd gathering and not one afraid to take chances, Mike had the band debut a new Edmund tune, "See You Later". It came off well for the first time and it was easy to hear the musical potential for this song. And when they broke into the smooth R&B song "When U Get Back" the crowd got it, started grooving to it and the band blew it out with that usual fantastic peaking piano solo by Vin.

One great aspect about the face of todays' hippie is that these kids have open ears. Even with the band being unknown to much of the crowd it didn't take long for these kids to "get" the music and appreciate the level of playing that was unfolding before them. The reason I say kids is that, in my opinion, the majority of the crowd had to be from 16 to 23 years old with a few older hippies in the mix.

There they were - dancing in the clothes that I once wore. Maybe I should have told them to strike another match, go start anew, but no, they are the chosen few, the keepers of a flame, that started when Jack envisioned a rucksack nation and here they were - a generation later waving the freak flag high. As Hunter realized; the high water mark may have come and passed, but thankfully this spirit just won't die.

A young girl, perhaps 18 or 19, sat down on the ground in front of me while the band was playing and started reading from a small thin book which I imagined could only be a book of poetry due to it's size. I watched her as she read, stopped, gazed up from the book obviously pondering the poem or line she had just read. I was intrigued and curious as to what book she was reading. After awhile she moved the book in such a manner that I was able to see the cover and lo and behold it was Jack Kerouac's "Scattered Poems", with a picture of Jack on the front.

And the band kept playin on... doing fine appreciated versions of their own tunes, Mind Made Up, Second Nature, and What Goes On. To check in on the other band members that afternoon, Lee looked as if he was having the time of his life, Edmund Pert was en fuego and Jed did a monstrous bass solo on Child Inside. After a fabulous fun romp through a Santana medley, which the band does as well as, hmmm, maybe Santana, (you can catch a video clip below) it was over, time to pack up the gear, march it through the throngs of people and trees to head down to complete the double-header at Jake's in Wallingford, CT. that same night. Blowing kisses at beautiful hippie girls, I proceeded with my own exodus.

Peace and Love don't get old, Battus Philenor

OH, Ya' know.... there's no better place to see MCB than outside, so now that the weather is nice, come on down to the Wadsworth Mansion in Middetown, Ct. on Wednesday, July 20th for one of their best and biggest gigs of the year. Don't miss out on the fun people. B.P.

Winter Recap

It's Springtime so just as good a time as any for a winter recap of MCB shows. MCB managed to make it through without having to cancel any gigs! We had a close call the night of JD Coopers with a brief ice storm but we survived. We had a great gig at Jakes in December as well as a couple of stops before and after New Years Eve at Donahues. Speaking of New Years Eve, this year we played at Sues Soiree held at the Artspace in Hartford. This turned out to be an amazing party and was topped off by a briiliant fireworks display at midnight. MCB also had a great show at The Hungry Tiger on MC's birthday in February. In between gigs we managed to knock out 9 tunes in the studio and we are in the process of finishing them up and mixing at this moment. We have been posting new tracks on our music page so check them out here.

http://www.michaelclearyband.com/music.html

Below we've posted some clips for your enjoyment from some of the shows this winter

And we came across this one which does not qualify for winter but it rocks none the less with Vin on the Hammond at Donahues and Gumby on guitar on Halloween

Michael Cleary Band, Halloween 2010 from christopher donahue on Vimeo.

Fall Recap; Jakes, Donahues, Main Pub

MC here, filling in briefly for Jonny Gates in the Blogosphere to recap our last few gigs.

We made a stop at Jakes in Wallingford on October 23rd to a fantastic crowd who was treated to our mini psychedelic light show. We like to utilize their built in projector and screen which sits behind the band and is perfect for this type of setup. Tony, the friendly gent who books us there, commented that "you guys do it right with your whole show" at the end of the night. Our friend Jim Mingo brought in his PA with his new Presonus board and powered QSC Speakers and had the sound pumping steadily all night. Shout outs go to Dave Brewer, Anne Marie Cannata, Lori Esposito, Dave Alston, Lisa Ramsey Hollenbeck and Mike Lapitino from WPLR. It was great to see all of you guys as well as the whole crowd at Jakes who made it a memorable night.

On October 30 mcb traveled down to Donahues in Madison for a wild and crazy Halloween party. The band got dressed up in a varied assortment of costumes with "Best" going to Lee as Gumby. He managed to play the whole gig with his costume on much to mc's delight. What a good sport! The crowd was happily dancing in their clever costumes and we handed out an assortment of prizes to the best dressed. Shout outs to Edwin Bartlett, from CT Out and About, Janice Vecchito Thomas and her crew, and Byron, our sound guy for the evening, tastefully dressed as Spock.

On November 6th we played a totally high energy blowout gig at The Main Pub in Manchester. It was Keith, the owners, birthday and the place was jammed. Keith remarked how it was our best gig ever and was thrilled to have us play on his Birthday. The crowd rocked with us the whole night with high points being Lee singing the Derek Trucks song "I know", The Trey Anastasio tune "Cayman Review" which kicked off the first set, "Mind Made Up", "You Got My Love", and an intense Santana medley featuring Oye Como Va, Evil Ways and Soul Sacrifice to close out the first set. Special Guest Chip Fenney sat in on Sax in the second set and helped tear the rest of the roof off the place with a rousing set that featured What is Hip, Musicology, and closed with Child Inside. Thanks Chip! Shout outs go to Uncle Phil Wilson, Leah and Adriano, Lisa Karam and Michele Deluco and their crew, and of course Keith Beaulieu. Happy Birthday Keith, we hope you had as much fun as we did!

MCB on WFSB Better Ct Show 10/22/10

For the second time MCB had the pleasure of performing on the WFSB local television show "Better Connecticut".

After cutting our teeth with our first appearance on the show 2 years ago, this second time round went very smooth. The only thing that wasn't smooth was having to be at the studio at 7:30 AM. A bit earlier than the band is used to performing. Thanks to the help of Dave, Rich, and Darryl, the production crew, we were able to set up our gear, do a sound check, and easily be ready for taping at 9:30. These guys were great to work with. They have a good demeanor and really put the guys at ease joking around with them while maintaining their professionalism.

And that goes a long way cuz let's face it not everyone is used to appearing on TV, and most people, who don't appear regularly or who never have, are usually a bit nervous and anxious. I myself detected not a bit of nervousness with any of the band members. Everybody was hanging loose. Just take a look at percussionist Frank Bauer, in the green room, looking like the fifth Beatle ! Also take a look at the shot of drummer Edmund Peart smiling as he jokes around with the crew. That's relaxed.

The one thing about TV gigs; there's more production involved than actual "Play time". Plenty of time to go over vocal harmonies on the song the guys performed that morning and plenty of time for Mike to go over his guitar parts

It's all about the lights people. That's right. A lot of time is spent into getting the lighting just right on the band.

Dave, the Floor Manager, spent a half hour alone getting Frank Bauer's hair lit up right ! Joking aside, Dave is a total pro, you shoulda seen this guy orchestrate the entire show from behind the scenes with ease. You wanna talk about multi-tasking, this guy is on his game. But let's face it none of this woulda happened without Darryl. That's for you, Rich !

The one key ingredient to this broadcast that was missing, the co-host of Better Connecticut, the ever zany Scott Haney. Scott, you were sorely missed but handsomely replaced by the charming Mark Dixon.

The band was introduced by the lovely co-hostess Kara Sundlin and away they went into an MC original "Mind Made Up". A catchy tune that just grows on ya. Kinda like a lot of Mike's tunes. Mike looks great in the the lead vocal close ups and the whole band played solid and looked good. Before you know it it was over and not even all the song was fit into the broadcast. Lee played a tasteful solo and poof. Check out the vid at the wfsb website when you get a chance. http://www.wfsb.com/betterct/25475694/detail.html

Last but not least, Frank Grande, longtime friend of Mike's, myself, and the band showed up to hang with the band, keep everybody loose with that big smile and take pics. One of the funnier moments of the gig was when Frank and I were standing together as Dave, the floor mgr. was instructing the studio audience to not take any pics with a flash and, accidentally, in the middle of his statement I took a photo with the flash and he looks at me and says, "yeah, that". I couldn't have timed it any better if I wanted to.

We'd like to thank WFSB for having us on again and I think we're ready for that Late-Night gig !

   stay tuned ....Jonny Gates

Thanks to former bassist Ed Corvo, who filled in for Jedd that night, in helping to create some of those moments. After one incredible jam fueled by Eddy C, drummer Edmund Peart was overheard saying, "Now, that was fun."

Next up, another stop at one of our favorite places to play, that's right, Donahue's in Madison. Once again, another great night at Donahue's with a good group of fans anxious to see the band and boogie down. And, once again, Vin was in heaven with the house B-3 Hammond organ and Jedd gave us yet another incredible bass solo using his pedal effects. Rhythm guitarist Lee Sylvestre played some great lead solos that night and of course, Michael was his usual brilliant self with some fantastic solos and great guitar work.

Years ago, on what now seems like some distant planet, a guy named Jerry posed the question, "Where does the time go?" At the MCB 19th Anniversary Party it was certainly something to speculate on and celebrate. With many old familiar faces and new familiar faces in attendance, celebrate, we did.

Where did 19 years go? To help span the gap and bring it all back to the beginning we had the original band members set to perform that evening. The night started out with the current line-up doing the majority of the first set with the original members being invited up on stage throughout.

"Mr. Positive", percussionist Paul Bozzi came up and did his namesake tune and another original of his,"World Like This". Former keyboardist Tony Scarengella and Johnny Corvo came up and played on "Uptight", "Child Inside", and a monumental "Funky 16" that was a mindblower.

Honorable mention goes to Frank Bauer, our percussionist, who along with Michael were the only two band members to play the entire night. The real highlight of the night goes to Edmund Peart, who fronted the band, while Johnny Corvo sat in on drums and belted out a rousing version of "What Is Hip" that had the crowd in an uproar.

Ed Corvo eventually made an appearance after being delayed by a previous gig, strapped on his green five string bass and did two MC originals, "Edge of Feeling", "Hi, Hello", plus the Neville Bros. "Voodoo" which he took the lead vocal on. After Ed, the current line-up played for the remainder of the evening blowing the place out to end our 19 year celebration.

For another year the old met with new and the past with the present. What was so difficult to let go of and difficult to accept has now been reconciled and after two and a half years of hard work it appears the new line-up has been thoroughly embraced by the fans. I'd like to thank all the former members for attending and whose excellent musicianship set the bar extremely high by gaining the band the reputation that it has today as one the best jam bands in the state.

But enough about band members past or present because, let's face it, none of this would all be possible if not for the man himself, Michael Cleary. Yeah, that's right, who loves ya? This man is never given enough credit. Onstage, he's always one to give credit and gain applause for his fellow bandmates while unselfishly looking for none himself. If not for this man's superb musicianship, great songwriting, song arranging skills and the devotion to his own artistry would any of this co-creative expression between twelve different musicians over the last 19 years have happened. Without his perserverance and guidance over the last three years would this current line up of excellent, dedicated musicians exist and retain the continuity of a top notch musical unit.

So, everyone at the same time say, "Thank -You, Michael Cleary". Yeah that's right, thanks for the music, the mind-blowing guitar solos, the friends, and all the fun we get to have at these gigs, past and future.

We want to thank everyone that came down to help us celebrate and thank Frank at The Downtown Bar and Grill in Middletown, CT. for having us. We also look forward to seeing you all at the next gig, it's getting better all the time !

Stay Tuned...Jonny Gates

MC with Jen Lowe 8/15/10

On August 15th, Mike teamed up with singer, songwriter, musician, Jen Lowe for an acoustic duo at Lucky Lou's in Old Wethersfield, Ct. Well, partly acoustic, Mike did back Jen on a bunch of her songs playing electric guitar.

The format of their show was such, Jen sang and Mike usually backed her with electric, and when Mike sang he played acoustic.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Jen, Jen is a very talented songwriter, guitarist and performer, who writes, what I feel, are sensible, likeable, heartfelt songs. Jen and Mike have performed together before, with their bands sharing a double billing at Black-Eyed Sally's last year. Former MCB members Chip Fenney is a current member of Jen's band and Johnny Corvo fills in on drums for her occasionly.

Jen delivers her songs in a sentimental heartfelt manner and Mike's intricate lead fills on electric interwove beautifully with Jen's vocal phrasings. The flipside to her softer tone of delivery is a happy go lucky vocal styling which when paired together with Mike's songs and vocal styling makes for a perfect alternating combination of styles.

Mike played a bunch of MCB favorites including, "Free James Brown", "Barfly", and "When All Else Fails". He also played a few songs that you won't hear him play with MCB, only acoustically, including the debut of "I Don't Care What You Look Like", which was well received. They closed the evening with a rousing rendition of Jen's song "Hell" which is off of her cd that you can get on her website here http://jenlowe.com/

As you all know I've seen and heard Mike play quite a bit over the years and when Mike got loosened up on electric I heard him play some sick stuff that I never heard him play before !

The night went well with Mike making some new fans and selling a bunch of CD's. So, if you get the chance, which isn't that often, to see Mike acoustic, do so. Occasionally, MC and Lee will also do an acoustic duo so keep an eye out for that and we'll keep you posted on any other acoustic shows.

But until then come see MCB at Damon's in West Hartford, Ct., Friday Night August 20th.

We gonna rock out, get the funk out and just plain get down people !

stay tuned......... Jonny Gates

MCB at Wadsworth Mansion 8/11/10

As they say, it's all about the location. It certainly was about the location last Wednesday evening at the beautiful Wadsworth Mansion in Middletown, Ct. What a gorgeous place to hold a musical event or any event for that matter. Though I had heard previous testimony as to the size of the crowds at the Summer Music Series, held here annually in the month of July for the last several years, I was still thoroughly overwhelmed with the hundreds of people that showed up. With many MCB fans in attendance, whom I saw and spoke with,

they helped make for the largest crowd at any music event held there, this Summer, according to members of the Board of Directors.

With the weather in our favor this time, it was a glorious night, the band received a very nice introduction from, the Head of the Board of Directors at the Wadsworth Mansion, the charming Ann Cassidy.

The band kicked off their set with a nice slow reggae groove, with Lee Sylvestre on lead vocal, to warm things up. Mike went through a few of their originals,"Mind Made Up, Free James Brown, Barfly" to great reception with the crowd still growing larger.

The sentiment of the night could be summed up in line from the Jamie Cullum song, "Mind Trick",

"...if there's music in the night and it's really, really right, it's the only thing I need."

After recovering from the excitement at our last gig, Vin DeLaria was back on keys and the band rocked through the always likeable Santana Medley plus Vin's own original, Away-O , that features a bright, latin-flavored guitar solo by Mike at the end. Vin delivered some great organ fills on the medley and a brilliant piano solo on "When You Get Back" that drew a round of applause from the audience.

The audience was filled with many familiar faces and even a few people that were at our recent gig in Stafford Springs. Two of whom are a couple, Pete and Audrey, who are enthusiastic supporters of the local Connecticut music scene, which I truly appreciate. Linda, whom I mentioned in a previous blog, now a new fan of the band was in attendance. Linda was one of the few women who began to dance to the right of the band just outside a roped off area, led by an unlikely leader, at the age of 82, named Antonia. With the inspiration of Antonia this group of dancers soon grew quite large.

After the break, when the dancers were getting their groove on during our funk set,

Vin ran over to where they were dancing and held up the rope that separated the band from the audience

allowing them to get in front of the band. From that point on it was a giant MCB lovefest !

Edmund working the crowd with the microphone during "Sex Machine" and "We Got the Funk". Mike and Lee jamming back to back against each other at one point. The band hit full stride firing on all cylinders

delivering a solid performance of "When All Else Fails " to an audience that truly was of all ages.

In my estimation I would have to say that our recent gig at the Wadsworth Mansion was one of the best events that MCB has played to date. It was definitely a highlight to an already memorable Summer.

You know, I could write a lot more about this gig, but words can only do it so much justice. You just had to be there, it was that nice.

First we'd like to thank all the people at the Wadsworth Mansion for everything , including Joe Monthei, their soundman who did a great job and all of our fans who showed up to make this a special night.

Now for a few shout outs..... A longtime friend and fan of the band, Sandy, along with her daughter who had never seen us before. Great seeing you Sandy. The ever-loveable Mike Clark! my neighbors Tom and Terry,

Paul Bongiorno thanks for your help, Butch thanks for a recording of the band from 1991. Denise, I haven't forgot your Rhubarb !

and...... If you are already a fan of the band and haven't "friended" us on Facebook please find us at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Michael-Cleary-Band/47712268434

stay tuned............
MCB at Black Eyed Sallys 8/7/10

It's always a pleasure for MCB to play Black-Eyed Sally's Blues Club whenever given the opportunity.

This last Saturday, due to a cancellation by a band previously scheduled to perform there, we were given the call by the owner, James Verano, to fill that date. With that night open on our calender we gladly accepted.

For those of you who don't know Black-Eyed Sally's, let me briefly state, it is the best live music club in Hartford that features a great Cajun themed menu with plenty of dining space, a spacious stage for the band and a very adequate dance floor. Upon arriving to set up our gear the dining tables were filled with eager diners and fans most of whom stayed for the evening.

To get the party started the band kicked it off with a nice slow groove, "Fell in Love With A Girl", by the White Stripes via Joss Stone, now re-grooved by MCB with drummer Edmund Peart taking the lead vocal.

The band worked through the first few songs that featured Burn Brite, When you Get Back, Free JB, among others, with the crowd initially being a bit reluctant to take the dance floor, that is, until Edmund made the call.

Before starting James Brown's, "Sex Machine", Edmund told the crowd that it was time to get their funky selves out on the floor. Heeding the call, that is precisely what they did, filling the floor, unlocking the the energy and releasing the flow for all. The party was on with the gang from Susie's Soiree's boogieing down and taking the charge.

Another great group of girls dancing was the girl who was wearing blue, complete with blue tiara, along with her three friends. When I spoke with them at the break I thought I was in a scene out of a Ben Stiller movie. I went to their table, stood before them seated and asked if they were digging the band, which they were, if they had seen MCB before, which they hadn't. I said to the girl in blue that I really dug her funky look and she replied to me by saying that she and her friends were having a pre-wedding party and that she herself was the bride to be. Upon saying that she whipped out a T-shirt that she had neatly folded into a square displaying the front image of a five-year old boy with the name Adam below it and followed with, "This is the guy I'm marrying !

It was cute, yeah I got it, it was a picture of her future husband when he was five.

A pleasant surprise for the band and the fans that night was a visit by our old friend and former member of MCB, saxophone player, Chip Fenney. Chip sat in with the fellas at the end of the first set for a trio of funk tunes and provided us with some smokin' Sax playin' taking the band to an amazing peak on "What is Hip".

Thanks Chip !

After a short break the band started back up and soon after, the people followed,

filling the floor back up to dance. Two songs into the second set while the band was in full swing

our keyboardist, Vin DeLaria, was overcome with a wave of heat exhaustion and dehydration.

Vin had to stop playing and take the rest of the night off. The band stopped to assess the situation and realizing that Vin wouldn't be able to go on had to make the decision to play on or not. That decision was quickly made when one fan asked if we were going to continue playing. To which Mike replied, "Yes".

Shaking off that uneasy moment, still worried about the well being of Vin, the band picked up their instruments and played out the rest of the night. Things were a bit shaky for the crowd as well but people soon went back out to dance resuming their fun. Edmund, being our spiritual undertow of the evening, made the call for me to get out on the floor to do my thing. When the man calls, you can't let him down, you just got to go !

At the closing, with an empty seat at the keys, Mike went over to the piano and lead the band through, a first, a version of Tom Petty's "Breakdown". It was a fun and strange ending to a fun and strange night.

On a blue note, during the evening Edmund dedicated "What's Goin On " to the victims of the recent shooting in Manchester, Ct. Our condolences and sympathy go out to the survivors and victim's relatives as well.

The shout outs; To Lisa K and Sue D, Leah and Adriano, Jane and Joyce,

Beth, the girl in blue, and Adam may you have a wonderful life together,

and the lovely and talented Jen Lowe !

Oh, Vin's fine recuperating at home, come on out to the Wadsworth Mansion this Wednesday evening

and help us welcome him back !

Thus ends another memorable night in the now chronicled escapades of MCB via the Jonny Gates Frequency

    Stay tuned, Jonny Gates

MCB at Stafford Springs 8/1/10

Over the years MCB has played at many outdoor Summer music series in towns all over Connecticut. What I have witnessed over the years at these events is that they are never supported enough in attendance by local townspeople. Sunday at Heritage Park in Stafford Springs was quite the contrary. A very good crowd of enthusiastic people of all ages were in attendance. It was very nice to see a town supporting their local arts scene. Especially when we were the band that was performing that day ! According to people that I spoke with there it was the largest crowd this Summer for a musical event held there. Not that there were thousands, but Thank you people of Stafford Springs for the good turn out. With a nice crowd in attendance on the green, a beautiful day turning into a pleasant evening and a spacious Gazebo as the stage, the band was ready to play.

Starting out the set with Sting's "Love is the Seventh Wave" the band then went into one of their new originals. Mike usually sets up this song with his telling of how he wanted to parody lengthy Country and Western song titles by writing a C &W song with the longest title possible. The original title being "I got those late night, all right, Summers almost over but the headlights too bright, better pull it over, cause the wife is gonna kill me if I don't arrive completely sober Blues, again" , with the working title ironically shortened to "Barfly". Though the original title is still the main hook line of the song. When ended this song received a great round of applause. This song is a bit lyrically complicated and for it to be heard correctly the vocals coming out the main speakers must be very audible. This day they were thanks to our soundman, Rhody Triblets.

For those of you who don't know Rhody, he's been part of our musical family for years mixing the band countless times. Providing us with tech support, gear repair, and an ear for the band that no other soundman has. Rhody is a consumate professional who has been holding down the soundboard at Black-Eyed Sally's Blues Club in Hartford, which the band will be playing this Saturday the 7th of August, since it's opening. To quote Frank Bauer, " Our Sound was sound ! "

During the show I went among the audience to get names on our mailing list in order to do a drawing to give away a few CD's. It took me a while but I was able to speak briefly with almost everyone in attendance, whew ! I was completely overwhelmed with people's genuine adulation for the band considering that most of these people have never seen the band before. Hey, I shouldn't be surprised, I know how good they are. You do too, but if you don't, you better get out there and find out for yourself ! Check our calender.

It was a really good day for the band musically with Lee, our rhythm guitarist, doing a nice improv on the ride out of "When All Else Fails" that led the band into a smooth segue for "Funky 16". Lee also shined after Jedd's bass solo in "Child Inside" by starting a different groove taking the band into another far out jam til they found there way back to the ride-out hook. The biggest round of applause of the day came after Mike's solo in Santana's "Maria, Maria" that also showcased Edmund singing lead vocal. Here's a facial chronology of the guitar solo, enjoy !

When the band ended there were a lot of happy people, with faces beaming and much praise for the band. One woman declared that MCB was the best band that had performed there this summer. "For that," I said, "you get a free CD." She left glowing. With an 8 o'clock finish time it was a nice ending for a Sunday as opposed to playing in a club til closing.

For my one shout out.... that's to Linda from Portland, what are the odds that someone from my hometown, that was in the same year in school as my sister and one of Mike's brothers, and had never seen the band, just happened to be in Stafford Springs that day? ! Seeya at Wadsworth Mansion on the 11th Linda. til the next gig.......... stay tuned, Jonny Gates
